Arts
The curriculum model is devised by the SMT to deliver the requirements of the National Curriculum whilst also meeting the school aims.
Four Heads of department are responsible for producing schemes of work for the delivery of their subject and the Head of Faculty and Arts College Manager takes up a monitoring role. The timetable is created to ensure specialist teachers are matched to each class and that split groups are eliminated.
The KS4 options system and subsequent timetable blocking, is student-choice led to maximise commitment. The Arts occupy one option block. The uptake of one arts subject is very strongly recommended for all students but it is possible for students to opt to study 2 or 3 arts courses at KS4.
A new vocational courses in Art and Design, NCFE Music Technology, backstage skills and Arts award add breadth and economic perspectives to the arts courses.
All subjects offer out of hours cross curricular learning that includes community activities. We even run fast track music to AS level and organise a ‘One World Week’ to integrate cross curricular multi- cultural arts into the curriculum.

We believe that the arts have the power to change lives and communities, and to create both education and employment opportunities for our students. The Arts College is committed to getting great art to more people in school and in the community. To help us achieve this we need to recruit and work with great people with a diverse range of skills and attributes, constantly pursuing excellence. Recently our students have performed locally, at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford, Birmingham Symphony Hall and on the South Bank in London.
