A group of 25 Y9 students went on a trip to Salford University for an ACE (Access to College Education) Day on the 25th June. This event is designed to give a taste of what it is like to be a university student.
To begin with the Y9’s were put in groups to work with a student ambassador. These are university students who are working towards their own degree. They have volunteered to run these courses to raise awareness of Higher Education. Everyone worked together on a variety of activities about university life and also a Dragons Den style activity to design a product or service to benefit uni. students.
Later they took a tour around the university grounds and everyone was surprised at how big it was and also the facilities available on campus. For example, a swimming pool, climbing wall, sunbeds, a bank, a small supermarket, lots of places to eat and a bookshop to name just a few.
It was a very enjoyable day and also very informative, it showed our students what a good experience university could be.
