Fred Longworth High School is celebrating its best ever set of results, with over 82% of Year 11 students achieving at least 5 grades at C or above. The number of students achieving 5 grade Cs or above including English and Maths also rose significantly to almost 60%, again a best ever performance.
The anxieties of students turning up to receive their results quickly turned to excitement and celebration as students of all abilities discovered that they had exceeded their targets and achieved results that will give them an excellent start in life.
Many students showed that they could compete with the very best anywhere – over 400 A or A* grades were achieved and there were some stunning individual performances, with 9 students achieving 10 or more A or A* grades each. Some students even ventured into A levels, with all 9 students who took AS level Music achieving a pass.
Top results were awarded to Rachel Bell (8 A*s and 5 As), Becky Anderson, (8 A*s and 4 As) and David Dunning (5A*s and 7 As). Becky said she would like to thank the staff at Fred Longworth for their support over the years and said “these results mean I have the chance to make my own choices in life”. A group of 5 high-flying students, who achieved 50 A* and A grades between them, were certainly in the mood for celebration and pointed out that they could now do the A levels they really wanted to do.
Headteacher Mrs Janet Garretts congratulated students and staff on an outstanding set of results, achieved through the hard work and dedication of everyone at the school. She said “The school has a long tradition of students outperforming their targets, but these results represent an even better than usual performance. They are the consequence of years of hard work and are a testament to the very special working atmosphere in the school, with everyone wanting to achieve their best. The level of support for students has been incredible, with many staff giving freely of their time in the evenings and at weekends, and students have responded with real enthusiasm. We believe that they will leave us with a love for learning inspired by the excellent teaching at the school. We look forward to building upon this success in years to come – our students of all abilities can clearly see that, if they work hard, they can really reach for the stars at Fred Longworth.”
